If your solar inverter is linked but your car is not charging from solar as expected, work through these checks. Solar charging needs a linked inverter.
1. Check that the solar data is updating
Open the app and check whether your solar production data is updating.
If the data is not updating
The link to your inverter may have dropped. Remove the inverter in the app and add it again.
When you add it again:
- Huawei (FusionSolar): log in with your username. Your email address does not work here.
- SolarEdge: you need admin rights on the account and the 32-character API key. Your regular password does not work here.
If the data still does not update, go to "Still not working?" below.
If the data is updating
The link to your inverter works. Go to step 2.
2. Check your solar start threshold
In the app, check the solar start threshold you set. Charging only starts when your solar export (with a smart meter) or production (without a smart meter) is above this value.
If the threshold is too high, your panels may never produce enough surplus to start charging. Try a lower threshold.
3. Check that the car responds
If the threshold is reached and the solar data is correct, but the car still does not charge, the cause is with the car. Check:
- The car is plugged in and at a smart charging location.
- The data in the app matches your car's own app. See The Data in the App Is Hours Old.
- The requirements for your car brand are met.
For the full list of car checks, see Why Did My Car Not Charge Overnight?.
4. Know how solar and cheap hours work together
Solar charging and price-based smart charging work together. Below the solar start threshold, the app falls back to the cheap-hours plan. The car may then wait for cheap hours instead of charging straight away.
To charge mostly from solar, set a threshold your panels can reach during the day. See How Solar Charging Works.
Still not working?
Contact the support team of your app. If your app comes from your energy supplier, that is your energy supplier's customer service. Tell them your inverter brand, your car brand and model, and when it happened. A screenshot of the app helps.
