If your car stopped charging during a session, smart charging may have paused it on purpose, or the app may have lost contact with your car. Work through these checks.
1. Check that the data is fresh
Compare the battery level in the app with your car's own app.
- Same level, recently updated: the connection works. Go to step 2.
- Different, while your car's own app is fresh: the link to your car may have dropped. Remove the car in the app and add it again. See The Connection to My Car Was Lost.
BMW, MINI and Volkswagen Group cars only send fresh data when they are at home. If the car is elsewhere, the data can look old while the connection is fine. See The Data in the App Is Hours Old.
2. Check your smart charging settings
- Maximum price: if prices rose above your maximum price during the session, smart charging stopped on purpose.
- Paused: check that smart charging was not paused. See Pause Smart Charging and Charge Now.
- Ready-by time: smart charging spreads charging over the cheapest hours before your ready-by time. A pause between two cheap periods is normal.
- Inactive hours: the app does not control charging during inactive hours.
3. Check the charge limit in your car
The car stops at the charge limit set in the car or its brand app, for example 80%. Smart charging cannot charge beyond it. See My Car Stopped Charging at 80%.
4. Brand-specific checks
- BMW and MINI: starting or stopping charging in the My BMW or MINI app takes over that session. The car's own charging window can also stop charging. Set it to match your ready-by time, or switch it off.
- Mercedes-Benz: on the EQA, EQB and EQC, a stop can reset the Home charge limit to 50%. Check the charge limit of the Home charging program in the Mercedes app.
- Tesla: a Tesla Model 3 or Model Y can go into deep sleep and stop responding to commands.
5. Other possible causes
- A temporary outage at the car brand's cloud service.
- The car's own scheduling or power management interfered with the session.
- An outage of the smart charging service. Check the status page at statuspage.incident.io/gridio. Gridio is the company that runs smart charging for the app.
Still not working?
Contact the support team of your app. If your app comes from your energy supplier, that is your energy supplier's customer service. Tell them your car brand and model, the date and time the charging stopped, and the battery level at that moment. A screenshot of the app helps.
