Yes, smart charging works with any charger
You can use smart charging with any wallbox, smart charger or regular household socket. Smart charging controls your car through your car brand's online service. The charger does not need to support it. Talking to the car gives more detail about your battery and charging status, so charging can be planned precisely whatever charger you use.
Turn off the smart features of your wallbox
Some wallboxes have their own smart charging or scheduling, for example Easee, Zaptec, go-e or myenergi zappi. Turn those features off. Two systems controlling the same charging session can cause unexpected behaviour.
Leave your wallbox in "always on" or "plug and charge" mode and let the app plan charging.
Why the app controls the car
The car knows its battery level, its state of charge and how long it needs to be full. With that data, smart charging can plan much better than a charger alone could. You also do not need any specific charger.
